Week 79 - March 22, 2021

 W.O.W.  - Sumy, we back!

This week has been LEGITTT.  Before our new companions got to our apartment on Monday night, Elder Chambers and I decided to learn the Lord's prayers, recorded in the gospel of Matthew, in Russian, and recite it for morning and night group prayer with the new Elders, making them think that's how all of our prayers went... needless to say, it was pretty hilarious Haha, we all loved it.  "Отче наш, сущий на небесах! Да святится имя твоё. Да приидёт царствие твоё..." и т.д.

Last day with Elder Chambers

My new companion, Elder Illera, is legit.  We have been hitting it off, straight from the start.  He is the definition of G.O.A.T. on the guitar, and is teaching me his ways so I have a few tricks up my sleeve when I'm back home ;) peep my latest video on Facebook, or attached here, of our Moana rendition in Russian.  I memorized the lyrics, and he tackled the strumming.  It was so much fun to make... enjoy!!

Elder Illera and I have been hitting the work like beasts, and Sumy got no defense against it.  We just hammered down on lessons and stayed busy.  Knowing this place like the back of my hand has come to much use Haha.

When Elder Illera reached the top of this block, he yelled, "Repent," in Russian like he was on a soap box.

Alongside the work, I have been showing Elder Illera all the good restaurants, shawarma, etc.  Of course we have already gone and destroyed that 1.66 kg burger together, as well.

I honestly forgot how much good stuff there is to eat here, especially compared to my last area... hopefully I can keep up my 6 months to sexy workout routines and eating habits... Haha.

I gave a talk my first week back here in Sumy.  My introduction was a little like this.... "Sooo... I heard that a little someone went and told my mission president how much they missed me and wanted me back.... you hadn't had enough of me, so I have returned!"  Haha, they get a kick out of it.  Luckily the talk itself went well, too.

Unfortunately, we got ghosted by Sergei back in my last area. He stopped answering the week of his baptism :/ we pray for him.  Things are still great with Viktor there, though!  We are still keeping in touch a little, even though I'm not there anymore.  Great guy!  Can't wait for him to get dunked soon still.  The other great news, is that now I might get to see Gennady get baptized in person (that's who we had put on baptismal date in Poltava, but wanted to wait for things to work up)!  We are trying to set up an exchange with the other Elder there for the day of his baptism.  It would be such a blessing to be there!!

I am nearing the end of my reading in the New Testament and had never realized how much Paul just goes off, laying the good word out on people.

Recorded in 2 Timothy 3 -
11 ...persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

In Elder Neal A. Maxwell's words, Elder Holland taught... “one’s life … cannot be both faith-filled and stress-free.”  It simply will not work “to glide naively through life,” saying as we sip another glass of lemonade, “Lord, give me all thy choicest virtues, but be certain not to give me grief, nor sorrow, nor pain, nor opposition.  Please do not let anyone dislike me or betray me, and above all, do not ever let me feel forsaken by Thee or those I love.  In fact, Lord, be careful to keep me from all the experiences that made Thee divine.  And then, when the rough sledding by everyone else is over, please let me come and dwell with Thee, where I can boast about how similar our strengths and our characters are as I float along on my cloud of comfortable Christianity.”

My beloved brothers and sisters, Christianity is comforting, but it is often not comfortable. The path to holiness and happiness here and hereafter is a long and sometimes rocky one. It takes time and tenacity to walk it."

Paul's ministry earned him this understanding, that those who walk the path of righteousness, striving to, "live Godly in Christ Jesus," are those who may receive a little unwanted feedback, be it physical or verbal.  But through those trials, he always understood in whom he trusted, having endured those trials, in which the Lord always delivers him out from.

He learned, as Elder Holland said shortly after this remark, that "the reward for doing so is monumental."

I leave that thought with you to ponder in your own lives, and especially in your persecutions.  I promise you're not the only one who has faced those persecutions in your service of righteous living. To fact check me, you can turn to almost any page in the Bible, Book of Mormon, church history, pioneer history, and so forth.  You're not alone, so don't think that you are, and you're on the right path, so don't mistake that.

Weeks 77 and 78 - March 15, 2021

 Y'all, Y'all, what's good??

Aight, lemme give you the quick run down.  Big things going down again this week.  Lots of movement...

So this week, we found out that every British missionary in the Russian missions couldn't get their visas renewed, so they are coming here, to us!  Eleven "New" Elders are joining our mission.  Crazy news!!  And guess what... I'll be pairing up with one of them!!  ANDDDD I'll be be going BACK to SUMY to open it up!!

Yes, Sumy.  I think I've already served a year's length in Sumy, so it's a shock I'm going back to put in even more time there haha.  Having already dealt with the mold and coppery water, I'm ready to take it back on.  Overall though, I think this could possibly be my last area haha.

Elder Chambers and I had a blast for the one transfer we spent together, and I'm for sure going to miss him, and all the work going on here.

I don't know if I mentioned, but Viktor, one of our people working to baptism, has completely thrown out smoking! That's what's up!!  Adda boy!!  So so proud and excited for him.

I'll be sure to add more next week, but I'm running a little low on time here.

Much love, Y'all!!

Weeks 75 and 76 - March 2, 2021

Not too much going on over here!!

We still look forward to Viktor and Sergei's baptisms here in Novy Doma.  Cergei's baptism is this week, on the 6th!!  We had to move Viktor's baptism to somewhere after March 15th because he will be in the hospital from the beginning of March. He is doing great though!  Viktor is all the way down to less than a cigarette a day!!  What's his trick??  Eating whenever he feels the urge to smoke.  He says he's been eating a lot, but it's WORKING, and he should be completely off of it soon!! Woo!!

I also don't know if I ever mentioned this, but we have another person who totally wants to get baptized, and is BEYOND ready (like she is literally one of the most active "church members,"  joining church service every week, each activity, and always sharing her thoughts and testimony.  She's amazing).  The only problem, is that she and her boyfriend are living together, not married.  She wants to get married, but he doesn't want to.  They have talked about it, but those conversations haven't gone so great... Unfortunately, she has nowhere else she can go to live on her own either.  She is a pure Saint though.  Seriously.  Out of this world amazing.  She has some of the craziest faith I have ever seen.  Straight up on roids, I tell ya.  She is bound to get baptized, it's just a manner of time.  So good stuff over here!

Beyond that, we had exchanges.  On my exchange with my Zone Leader, I convinced him to beat the Kontik record, and he did it!  43 Kontik in under an hour.  Easy money y'all.  That was the biggest honor to watch lol.

Kontiking is where you put milk in a bowl, cut a small hole in each end of the Kontik cookie, and then suck the milk up through the cookie.  It is a must-do when you are in a Russian or Ukrainian country!

My other exchange was in Seltevka, and there I had this amazing Turkish downer thingy, and it was to die for.

We also had to walk two hours to meet for our exchange, and in the duration of that, all four missionaries slipped on the ice (especially.  My.  Companion.  He ate it like no other and got bruised.

The Seltevka apartment's balcony is, also, just being completely overtaken by pigeons and it's hilarious.  They set up shop there.

Also, as of after that exchange, I have now either served or held at least been on an exchange in all six areas in my zone!  Although I'm not the Zone Leader of this zone, I'm Def top gun 😂.

It's starting to warm up here slowly though, and it's nice!  I'm honestly so ready for spring/summer.  Gotta' get that tan going, ya know?  Plus, Elder Chambers and I are ready to start balling up in the nice weather, as opposed to the blizzardy snow at night... Other than that, the last announcement is that I have now been on my mission for a little more than 18 months! y'all... Tell me that's now CRAZYYYY.  Straight trippin' right now.  It's so weird to see all the sisters I came out with, now go home, though.  Shout out to all of them.  Adda sistas 💯

Shout out to all the homies, love y'all!

Pics of the Week

This humble member of the church is blind.  He really wanted to partake of the Sacrament, so Elder Wilde and his companion went to his home to allow him to do this.
