Week 45 - July 27, 2020

Что за ведро, мои собаки! 🗑🐶🐕

Alright, lm'ma just hit ya'll with a few updates to get this rolling.  I think I left you hangin' for a week or two, so this email may be a little полнянкым, so respect points go out to all those who воистину read it all haha.

1. OUR HOT WATER IS BACK ON.  It has been three weeks of boiling water on a stove top, and showering with a bucket. Long story short, running hot water is a blessing lol.

2. Not gonna try not to get too deep into this story, but here's on overview, it was so interesting lol.  I was Facebook finding, got a hold of this guy, and we start talking.  I think imma' self diagnose him with a case of amnesia and craziness.  I call him up, and he asks me why I'm here at least 10 times, in which I respond to the question 10 times. Finally, convince the guy to meet and give him a Book of Mormon.  So, we walk 45 minutes to get to his place.

We meet, and he is for sure a little drunk.  His dog's name is Soap, and he whips out a Bible from his front stairs (kinda was caught off guard with that part).  Anyways, he rambles, we try to share something and he continues to cut off and saying, "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY," (repeated this probably 10 times as well), in which I respond (10 times), "Nothing, we just want you to listen for one second!"  There was no listening lol.  He even tried shutting the Book of Mormon on me when I was reading for him.  Also, we had an assortment of bugs crawling all over us as we were trying to share a thought a two with him.  He also kept saying, "I'm 40 years old, you're 20, you can't teach me anything."  In which I may have gotten a little sassy, I will not lie... but did comment the fact that Jesus started his own ministry much younger then 20, and finished at the age of 33, which by my math, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) puts him a few years short of 40!  So with that, I told him that if Jesus was in front of him, he wouldn't take the time to talk to him cuz he isn't old enough to teach him a thing or two?  Finally, we just ended up making the 45 minute trek back home.  Interesting stuff!! Trust me, you just had to be there... I just wish his mind had been, too lol.  Lowkey thought--he was about to throw hands at one point lol.

3. I ordered two really cool scriptures cases!!  A member makes them down in Odessa!!  One of them has the Kiev Temple on it with a cool Ukrainian design on the side,

and I came up with the design of the one with the world!!  Under is the quote in Russian, "The truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear." -Joseph Smith.  Then on the side is a cool wheat design!  WOO, I was so excited to get these!!))

4. Elder Olsen and I led a "Come Follow Me" lesson for our branch church.

5. Found this super cool area in the middle of the boonies. These big abandoned spray-painted buildings.

6. Wooo okay... last story.  I'm gonna really sum this one up the best I can.  Things really did not go as planned in this one lol.  Here we go:

-- member needs help moving bed
-- no members pick up their phones to help
-- we finally get permission to go help
-- taxi company picks up the phone, only to respond "No taxis available," and just hang up right away before we have any sort of chance to work something out
-- finally find a competent taxi company
-- area book brings us to the wrong address
-- get the the members and it's already 9:05
-- try to help put together a bed, and then 9:30 comes
-- Zone Leaders and APs be asking us watsup and why we aren't home.  That was an awk convo lol
-- members call a taxi, and the company said, "We will send you a message for the taxi to come."  They never send a message and a car never comes...
-- luckily these members have a car.  They take us home.  We get home at 10:10... curfew is 9:30 at the latest lol.
-- Satan was really hittin' us with a few succor punches that night lol

But... on the bright side... IT WAS SO FUN TO MEET MEMBERS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I HAVE ARRIVED IN SUMY AHHH.  It made me so happy to get to meet some in person!!  To celebrate the moment, I had them take a picture with me when we got home.

And one more thing... WE ARE GOING TO KHARKIV ON THURSDAY!  I am so so excited!  We get to see the entire Zone and have a short meeting all together with President and Sister Wirthlin!!  Woo!!  Three hours there and three hours back, but totally worth it!!

Oh, also WAY cool.  Elder Olsen and I went and got our hair cuts today (that's not the cool part) and while I was getting my hair cut, I was just making small talk with the lady.  She asked why we were here and I simply said we were missionaries.  She asked a few more questions about it and then hit me with the, "Where's your church?"  So, I hit her with the "address."  And then she hit ME with the, "I want to come, I am very interested."  And then we hit EACH OTHER with the phone number swap.  Then I hit HER with the church pamphlets, which she said she "REALLY" wants to read.  And finally I hit the SISTER MISSIONARIES with a referral!! It was way cool!!  She fully initiated and now we have a great potential person to teach!  Hopefully, we can end it all off by hitting the font 👀😂

Love y'all tons,
Elder Wilde

Week 44 - July 6, 2020

Aloha *Russian accent*

Sorry in advance... but this is gonna be another email with a water related portion in it lol.  We just can't seem to catch a break!!😂

So our sink is still ALMOST fully fixed lol.  But guess what happened recently... our housing district's hot water got shut off, probably due to remonts going on!  When we called our repair guy, he goes, "Yeah, no that's not a problem... that's just Ukraine," and then jokingly said we can write home about it, which I am now doing 😂.  Someone we teach told us that it is probably the remonts, too, and that it can last anywhere between three weeks, to maybe two months lol.  Lovely anticipation ahead!!  But, she gave advice!  She said when this happens, they fill a bucket with hot water and take showers with it!  So my choice was either a bucket shower, or a freezing cold Antarctica shower... long story short, I have been showering with a bucket for the last week lol.

OH, ALSO!!!  Our fridge started leaking)) I'm gonna count that as a water problem as well 😂.

All this really makes someone really grateful for reliable running clean water, trust me lol.  I love these mission life experiences here in Ukraine lol,  They are actually so funny and the best 😂.

This week, we also all got together as a district to help be part of a video that our mission is making to put on Facebook!!  It was way fun haha.

Also, we were walking by this little fountain we have in our area, and I said out loud, "What if someone just ran through that," and sister Olson says... "I've thought about it!"  And then I was like, "Hold up, wait, do it then!"  And then she said, "Okay," and then did it and it was hilarious, and we were all way proud 😂.

Moving forward!... we have had some really great lessons this week, and even found three new contacts to talk to!!  One of those lessons was really interesting though... pretty much one of the people we taught was trying to say that everything that Christ did, all his miracles, could simply be debunked into explanational reasons lol.  Walking on water for example... apparently a lot of people could do that! Especially with the help of science... mind you what scientific advancements there were 2000 years ago lol.  My favorite one tho, was this lol.  Jesus never really died, he was just in a deep sleep when he went into the tomb, and then woke up three days later 😂.  He then somehow moved a boulder, and his angelic, celestial, glorified personage as a resurrected being was simply a few nifty tricks to make him look accordingly.  I was shook 😂.

We have been having a lot of lessons about Joseph Smith recently.  I love to share the analogy of when you have one dot that represents the Bible, that you can draw many lines through that dot, each representing a different interpretation of the Bible.  But then when you add a second dot to the page, representing the Book of Mormon, you can only draw one line, representing how it makes one clear interpretation of Christ's teachings!!  I then like to conduct a little experiment with those we teach.  I send them a text in Chinese and say, "I want you to translate this for me right now."  And they say, "Well, I can't.  I don't know that language."  And then I ask, "Then how could Joseph Smith have translated an ancient language, far more difficult, covering about 400 pages of text (about the length of a Russian Book of Mormon), within such a short period of time, two hundred years ago when you couldn't simply whip our Google Translate, along side a very poor education, and somehow make every single verse and story not contradict itself, but tie in perfectly together?"  The only possible and true explanation, is because he was a prophet of God, holding power to translate the word of God.  Then we usually give them this talk to listen to for homework to top it all off lol. I'm speed typing right now so I hope that it all comes out with understanding lol.

All my love to y'all,
Elder Wilde
